Milla Chitwood
Milla Chitwood is a cellist from St. Louis, Missouri and began playing the cello at age twelve. She currently studies at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where she is pursuing her undergraduate degree under the tutelage of Andrew Mark. Over the years, Milla has also studied with cellists Catherine Lehr-Ramos, Rhonda Rider, and David Russell.
Milla has been teaching for many years, tutoring students in her school district’s middle and high school. She was featured in the A+ Scholar Program in Missouri for tutoring music students. As a teacher, Milla strives for her students to have a passion for learning the cello and to love the sound they make. She is able to establish a student’s toolbox in order for them to think about their short and long term goals in playing the cello, whether that be growing their skills as a hobby or guiding them to become a professional musician.
Milla has performed in several halls including Boston Symphony Hall, New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, the St. Louis Symphony’s Powell Hall, and was featured as a soloist in the 16th Annual Concept School Art & Language Festival at the Copernicus Center in Chicago. Milla has won First Prize in the Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition’s Advanced Division, has placed in the St. Louis Civic Orchestra Florence Frager Young Artist Competition, the Town and Country Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition, and was a finalist in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra competition and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Young Artist Competition.
Milla has been a recipient of the G.A. Jr. and Kathryn M. Buder Charitable Foundation and Monticello College Foundation Scholarship. Milla has attended the Hilton Head Chamber Music Institute, the MOCM Adult Chamber Music Intensive featured as a Young Fellow in Residence, and the International Cello Institute.
